He began to be scorched with a burning heat
Hello,
Sorry that I wasn't able to send an email last week haha, that's my bad. This week was alright; I got pretty sick with a high fever and headaches, but it all worked out, and I'm feeling mostly better now, and General Conference and Romarilyn's baptism this weekend went pretty well.
Tuesday went pretty well. We first met with Monalisa, one of the women that came to the chapel open house last week and that we were able to meet with and give a Book of Mormon to on Sunday, which went well. We then met with Glenn, a guy that came to the open house, and his wife, Karen, which also went well, but they (mostly he lol) talked for an entire hour before we even shared a message haha, I think we talked 5% of that whole interaction lol. He actually grew up in Washington for a bit, and he's heading back to the US in a few weeks for a little bit, so we'll see what happens, but they seem interested, which is nice. We then headed over to Romarilyn's for Nick's birthday. After sharing some spiritual thoughts and eating some food, we headed over to try to visit the Calimag brothers, but they weren't home, so we headed back to our house to send some texts and do DFTC work.
Wednesday was a bit rough haha. I started to not feel that great in the morning, but we just pushed through it. We met up with Nick and walked to a further area of his part of town to meet some less-active/part-member family households, which went alright, and we then walked to another further part of our area (lots of walking haha) to visit the Macarilay family, but only one of the daughters and her newborn baby was there, so we just talked with her for a little bit. We then visited Tatay Pang to ask if he wanted to join us in visiting the Bulan family, and while we were with him, my head started to get super hot as I developed a fever, fun times haha. We still went to the Bulan family, and my pain/fever lessened a bit as we taught them, which I was grateful for, but it started to come back as we walked back home. Turns out, I was running a 102 F fever haha, super fun, so we called Sister Cobing and followed her instructions to care for myself, and we rested for the evening.
By Thursday morning, my fever was gone, but I still had quite a bit of a headache that lasted the rest of the day. We had district council today, but with my condition, we just stayed home and joined via zoom, which went alright. After district council, we went to visit Sister Elaine, which went pretty well, she's doing great as a counselor in the Primary presidency. We then headed over to visit Romarilyn, but they were busy, so we just headed home for me to manage my condition and work on some social media tasks.
On Friday, I continued to not feel the greatest haha, but we survived. As we ate lunch outside, a few people asked to take a couple pictures with us/me, which is honestly not an uncommon occurrence haha, it's happened a few times to me and to the other American missionaries. Anyways, after some lunch and weekly planning, we visited Monalisa and Violeta again, which went pretty well, Violeta kept asking us to write down the scriptures we used or things we taught so that she could remember them and read them herself, which was nice. We then met with Romarilyn to finish teaching a couple principles we haven't been able to teach her yet, which went well, she loves the concept of the temple. After that, we headed home to do some social media/DFTC tasks and finalize the baptism program/confirm with members if they were going tomorrow.
On Saturday, We left in the morning to go watch General Conference at the Alicia stake building, and get lunch with the other missionaries that were there, which was nice, before coming back to watch the afternoon session. We then got a ride back to Jones with our branch president, President Acosta, which was nice. We drove straight to the church building to prepare for the baptism, aaaaaand the font wasn't filled haha, the person we had asked to fill it up didn't actually fill it up, and the baptism was in 30-45 minutes. With no time to fill up the font, our branch president decided that Romarilyn would be baptized in the nearest river, so we called her to let her know of this unexpected development haha. The program started at the church, but we travelled to the river for the actual baptism and then came back for the talks/conclusion of the program, it was pretty nice. It was so nice to see Romarilyn there with a huge smile, and she gave a sweet testimony after her baptism. Her husband came too, which was nice, but her eldest son (member) had work, so Elder Anor baptized her instead. Afterwards, we headed with President Acosta to a Family Home Evening with a less active family (the son who was there and his wife have been coming to church more lately) and some other members, which went alright. President Acosta then drove us to Echague for us to spend the night with the Elders there so that we could arrive on time for General Conference tomorrow (he's from Echague anyways, so he just offered to take us there himself as he drives home haha), and we were able to have a good chat with him about ministering work in the branch.
On Sunday, we headed back to the Alicia stake center for General Conference, which was great. In between the sessions, we had lunch with President Acosta, which was nice, and afterwards, we headed back to Jones. When we got home, we tried visiting a couple nearby families before heading over to the Bulan family and later to Tatay Pang to talk with him and invite him to join us to visit the Bulan family again tomorrow. We then headed home for the evening, and I had my monthly meeting with the Messenger missionaries. I honestly didn't have much to talk about since nothing much has changed in the past month haha, but it was alright, and I saw Elder Gernale for the first time since I was transferred (his companion now is a Messenger missionary, but his companion hadn't joined our meetings until now lol), so that was pretty nice, a good way to end the evening.
Interesting week with the fever, baptism in the river, and General Conference haha, but it was all good, and we continue to strive to find more of God's children to help take the same steps that Romarilyn has taken, and we continue to see His hand in our lives and the lives of others. Keep praying, keep reading the scriptures (especially the Book of Mormon), keep going to church, and keep following the words of the prophets, and I promise that you will see miracles in your life and find greater peace and happiness through the power of Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. Have a fantastic week!
See you all next week,
Elder Enger
