Trunk or treat
Hello,
How are you guys doing during this spooky Halloween season? I'm sure all of your costumes were wonderful; I, personally, dressed up as a missionary for the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, very scary indeed.
Nothing too exciting happened on Tuesday. We normally meet with Justin and Jaycci on Tuesdays, but they were busy with all of the Halloween celebrations that their kids were having, so we just rode around some neighborhoods and made a lot of stopbys. We also found a hidden-ish pond, so that was neat haha.
On Wednesday, we had Zone Conference, so that took up most of our day. President Smith asked us to each prepare a three minute talk about General Conference and how it related to our mission plan because he was going to choose a few of us to share it at Zone Conference, and of course, I was the first person chosen lol. I talked about Elder Holland's talk "The Greatest Possession" and 4 Nephi and how living and teaching the Doctrine of Christ will help us enjoy greater peace and harmony wherever we are because the love of God will dwell within our hearts as well as the hearts of those around us. The conference was good, we learned a lot and had some fun. On the car ride home, we decided to call a random number, and it turned into a 30 minute long call haha. He started out by trying to bash us and our beliefs, but we were able to turn it into a good conversation and end the call on a positive note. We were also able to teach him quite a bit, and he actually seemed open to talking to us again haha.
On Thursday, we did some service in the morning with another member (super cool guy). After that, we did weekly planning and made some contacts, and then we met some pretty interesting people later that evening haha. The first guy we met (Steven) called out to us and told us that we should wear helmets (we weren't wearing some at the moment because we keep forgetting to put them on lol). We asked him if we could say a prayer with him, but he instead said that if we stop by his house on Sunday and we're wearing helmets, then he'll agree to a prayer and listen to us. It was pretty funny haha, and we definitely felt like God was telling us to actually wear our helmets more, so we've promised that we'll be more committed to wearing them. Later, we met with Eduardo, and he told us about all these bad things that had happened that week since he went to church, so we gave him some encouragement and told him about how we need to keep our focus on Jesus Christ even when all these distractions or trials are happening around us since He is the source of peace and comfort in our lives (see Helaman 5:12). He was grateful for it, and hopefully things get better. Lastly, we stopped to get some ice cream, and a drunk guy came up to us talking about how much he loves God haha. We talked to him a little bit, and he was sober enough to agree to talking to us again, but he was pretty funny haha.
On Friday, we had exchanges, and I had to lead my area for the first time. My companion went to Morgan Hill for the day, and I stayed here with one of the Morgan Hill Elders. It was a little stressful haha, but it went well, and I was pushed to be a little more talkative as I led, planned out the day, and decided who to stop by. Nothing too crazy happened, but we were able to meet some new people and have some good discussions on the street or on someone's doorstep. There was one guy who kept going on these crazy tangents and talking about the most random things haha, so I had to keep directing it back to Jesus Christ and told him how our faith in Him needs to be the focus of our lives. He loved what we had to say, and he told us that we're welcome to come back again, but he was really funny, and I could tell that the other Elder was a little uncomfortable, which just made it more fun for me haha.
Saturday is our "inviting people to church" day haha, so we made a lot of phone calls and stopbys. We also did some service, and in the evening, we went to our ward's Trunk and Treat. It was a pretty fun; there were a lot of people there (both members of the Church and those who aren't), and Justin and Jaycci brought their family as well as their neighbor (Mike) and his family. What was awesome was that Justin actually invited Mike and his family to church as we were talking with him, so he's basically doing our job for us haha. Anyways, that was exciting, and the Trunk and Treat was super fun, but it felt pretty weird since it doesn't feel completely like Halloween as a missionary haha.
Sunday was pretty interesting. Because it was Halloween, we had to be in our apartments by 6pm, but the rest of the day was good, we had fun and got some good work done. Unfortunately, Mike and his family didn't make it to church, which was a little disappointing because we felt like it was such a good church service. The talks were great and seemed like they would've been so good for Mike to hear, and second hour was all about focusing on Jesus Christ, but it is what it is, we have faith that they'll have a good time at church whenever they go. After church, we stopped by Steven (the helmet guy haha). He was pretty surprised to see us lol, but he said he was a man of his word and agreed to listen to us. We taught him about the name of the Chruch, where the nickname "Mormons" came from, and the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. He liked what we had to say, and it made sense to him, but he seemed to like listening to the historical background/information and didn't seem to interested in the spiritual side of things. It's all good, we were able to teach him a lot and give him a Book of Mormon to read, and we'll try to meet with him again. We then stopped by Justin/Jaycci, who fed us (we hadn't eaten all day yet lol) as we answered questions they had about what they were studying. After that, we had to be back at our apartment, so we did some social media work and cleaned our apartment. Super fun Halloween lol.
That was my super spooky Halloween week, I hope you guys had a lot of fun this weekend. See you next time!
